Fatal Affair Netflix Movie Review

By Felicia Webster

Fatal Affair is a Netflix movie directed by Peter Sullivan. Starring Nia Long, Omar Epps and Stephen Bishop.

About the movie: A woman is stalked by a man whom she almost had an affair with as she tries to fix her marriage. Nia Long (Ellie Warren) is an attorney and Omar Epps (David Hammond) works as a cyber security technician who starts a job at the same law firm. Stephan Bishop (Marcus Warren) plays the husband of Ellie and they also share a daughter who’s in college. What was supposed to be an innocent meet up between two colleagues, quickly took a turn for the worse, when David refused to accept boundaries. The movie resembles a lot of Fatal Attraction type suspense, except the story lacks originality. I was excited to see Nia Long, since she haven’t done any movies in a long time and I think this was the perfect role for her, however, the writing is what throws the movie off in the beginning. Ellie expressed how much she didn’t feel noticed in her marriage anymore. Even though she and David had some history in their college years, it wasn’t convincing enough to see why he developed such an obsession over her. Also the movie didn’t portray their marriage to be in too much of a good or bad place in the beginning, which confused me as to why was Ellie’s character so easily willing to take that chance and risk it all with David. David seemed to come on too strong and aggressive early on and he didn’t have to do too much to get what he wanted. After being rejected for not having his way, he starts to show signs of a narcissist. Although the movie was very predictable 20 minutes in, Nia Long and Omar Epps did an amazing performance. It’s exciting good to see Omar Epps play the role of a psychopath, but sometimes too much suspense doesn’t leave much to the imagination. The movie was good, but it could’ve been much better, had it not be so predictable.

I give this movie 2 out of 5 🍵🍵
