Mama, Throwback Review

By Felicia Webster

Mama, is a 2013 horror that tells the story of a father who’s going through bankruptcy, then falls into a deep depression. He kills his wife, business partner and also nearly kills himself before turning the gun on his two children. Out of nowhere appears a dark disfigured presence that stops him from taking his daughters lives.

After some time has passed two passer byers come across an abandoned, condemned property and finds the two little girls. They report the little girls to detectives who eventually turns them over to their uncle, their father’s twin brother and next of kin. After the girls undergo evaluation and therapy, they go to live with their uncle and his live in girlfriend, Annabel.Once they are settled in the house the evil dark female presence appears now and again engaging with both Lily and Victoria. Jeffrey and Annabelle soon realizes the four of them are not alone and that’s on the horror begins.

I really enjoyed this film and I watched it many times. It’s a different kind of Horror that is often unimaginable, unheard of and underrated. I enjoy a good mysterious jumpscare, the lighting was perfect at times dark, but it was for this particular movie. One thing you’ll notice is the bond between Annabelle and the girls, they had more of a bond with her than their uncle. Also he hardly had any screen time. But I guess they had to fit that in the movie to place the girls in the family setting. The ending was not expected but it doesn’t take away from how good the movie is and I can only hope for a sequel.

I give this movie 5/5 🍡🍡🍡🍡🍡
